Cancer Exercise Specialist®
I want to support you on your cancer journey by offering individualized exercise programming, education and guidance. I am passionate about helping people, particularly by helping you stay active and strong throughout cancer treatment and recovery. I'm experienced in training clients over Zoom, so I can work with you virtually, no matter where you are.
How I'll approach working with you:
-
Your exercise program should be tailored to your specific needs. One size does not fit all!
-
There are many factors that are important to long-term survival from cancer. They include a heart healthy diet and regular physical exercise.
-
Don’t stop moving! Exercise has become an important part of a cancer treatment plan, confirmed by research.
Research also shows that regular exercise can greatly improve physical and mental health during every phase of treatment. There are no harmful effects on patients with cancer from moderate exercise, and it has been demonstrated that those who exercised regularly had 40% to 50% less fatigue, the primary complaint during treatment.
My role as a Cancer Exercise Specialist®:
-
Prevent, identify and manage lymphedema
-
Increase range of motion
-
Correct postural deviations
-
Functional and balance training
-
Improve overall physical strength and flexibility
-
Reduce pain and fatigue
-
Design, prescribe and teach personalized programs
As a certified Cancer Exercise Specialist®, I am trained to take into consideration:
-
Type of cancer
-
Surgical procedures and treatments
-
Acute and chronic side effects (including fatigue, compromised immunity, lymphedema, osteoporosis, peripheral neuropathy, nausea)
-
Exercise precautions and modifications
I have gone through training with the Cancer Exercise Training Institute on how to work with cancer patients during and after cancer surgery and treatment and into survivorship. This training covered 27 types of cancer, as well as pediatrics, with special emphasis on breast cancer and breast reconstruction.
It is imperative to start slowly and progress incrementally. Exercise is a planned, structured activity that has a purpose and calculated energy expenditure.
You are stronger than you feel -- let's take charge through exercise!
